Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 7, 2026
Mismop helps renters document the condition of their rental at move-in and move-out so they can protect their security deposit. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible and never sell your data.
1. Information we collect
You provide directly
- Email address. Required so we can send your inspection record and any reminders. We do not require an account or password — you receive a private magic link in each email.
- Property details. Address, landlord/property-manager name and email (if you choose to enter them), lease dates, and any notes you add about the unit.
- Photos. Captured during a guided inspection to document the condition of each room and surface.
- Forms. If you upload a landlord move-in/move-out form, we store the original document and the structured fields we extract from it.
Collected automatically
- Device and diagnostic data. Anonymous app version, OS version, device model, and crash logs. We use this to fix bugs.
- Receipt data (purchases). When you subscribe through the App Store or Google Play, we receive a signed purchase receipt from Apple/Google to verify entitlement. We do not see your card or payment details.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect your contacts, calendar, microphone, or precise location.
- We do not embed third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
- We do not link your activity across other apps or websites.
2. How we use your data
- To run guided inspections, analyze photos for defects, and compare move-in vs. move-out condition.
- To auto-fill landlord inspection forms with the evidence you have captured.
- To email you a copy of your inspection record (which doubles as a dated, forwardable artifact).
- To send reminders you have explicitly opted into (e.g. "your move-out window is 7 days away").
- To verify subscription entitlement and process App Store / Google Play purchases.
- To diagnose crashes and improve reliability.
3. AI processing
Mismop uses AI to detect potential damage in photos, compare images across time, and extract fields from inspection forms. We send the relevant photos and form text to OpenAI (for vision and language models) and Amazon Web Services (for form-structure extraction via Amazon Textract). These vendors process the data on our behalf as sub-processors and do not use it to train their general models.
AI output is provided as guidance only — Mismop does not give legal advice, does not estimate deposit deductions, and does not represent you in disputes with a landlord. You retain full control over the contents of your record before any email is sent.
4. Sharing
We share data only with the service providers we need to operate the app:
- Supabase (hosting, database, file storage).
- OpenAI (defect detection, photo comparison, text generation).
- Amazon Web Services (Textract for form-structure extraction).
- Resend (transactional email delivery).
- Apple and Google (subscription receipt verification).
Each acts as a data processor under our instructions. We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it with advertisers.
5. Retention and deletion
Mismop is built around an "aggressive purge for inactive users" model. Inspection photos and form scans are removed after an extended period of inactivity, and you can delete your record at any time from the app or by emailing privacy@mismop.io. Subscription receipts and minimal billing audit records may be retained as long as required by App Store / Google Play and tax law.
6. Children
Mismop is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g. California, the EU, the UK) you may have the right to access, correct, port, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@mismop.io.
8. Security
We use industry-standard transport encryption (HTTPS/TLS) and encryption at rest for stored photos and forms. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit access to your data to a small set of authorized operators on a need-to-know basis.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
